Goals for Nutrition Education and Promotion

  • Provide clients with the knowledge and skills necessary to promote and protect their health.
  • Promote fruits, vegetables, and whole-grain products, low-fat and fat-free dairy products and healthy foods.

Goals for Physical Activity

  • Promote the benefits of a physically active lifestlye and help clients develop skills to engage in lifelong health habits.
  • Encourage classroom teachers to provide short physical activity breaks (3-5 minutes) as appropriate.

Goals for School Based Activities that Promote Student Wellness

  • Permit clients to bring and carry water bottles filled with water throughout the day.
  • Strive to provide clients with at least 20 minutes to eat after sitting down for breakfast and 20 minutes after sitting down for lunch.

School Breakfast Benefits

  • Eating breakfast can help improve math, reading, and standardized test scores.
  • Children who eat breakfast are more likely to behave better in school and get along with their peers than those who do not.
  • Breakfast helps children pay attention, perform problem-solving tasks, and improves memory.
  • Children who eat school breakfast are likely to have fewer absences and incidents of tardiness than those who do not
  • Studies have shown that children who eat breakfast on a regular basis are less likely to be overweight.
  • Schools that provide breakfast in the classroom to all students have shown decreases in tardiness and suspensions as well as improved student behavior and attentiveness.
